The CardsReviews take

Weigh the lower APR against the annual fee.

Prestige has a lower checked purchase APR than several cards in this catalog, but the annual fee is a recurring cost even when you pay in full. Its cash-back reward is tied to qualifying payments rather than a blanket purchase rate.

Consider it if: you want to compare the specific Prestige terms, not blend First Progress variants.

A closer look

How it works in real life.

Prestige, Select and Elite are different offers

This profile covers First Progress Prestige specifically. Do not combine its purchase APR with another variant’s annual fee. The issuer’s older comparison page contains different rate figures, so the current dated Prestige application disclosure is the pricing source used here.

Compare the recurring fee with your repayment habits

A lower purchase APR can reduce interest relative to a higher-rate offer, but the annual fee remains a cost even if you pay every statement in full. A comparison should use the same balance, payment and time period. If you intend to avoid purchase interest entirely, focus on the recurring fee, deposit requirements and account features that you actually need.

Cash back is based on payments

The advertised reward is tied to qualifying payments rather than being a blanket purchase reward. Hypothetical qualifying payments of $1,200 at 1% would produce $12 before exclusions. Against a $49 annual fee, that leaves $37 of fee cost before interest or other charges. The example is not a reason to carry a balance or make extra purchases.

Set aside enough cash for collateral and bills

The minimum deposit is money committed to the secured account; it does not settle later purchases. For a hypothetical $200 deposit and $80 purchase, the deposit remains collateral while the $80 still requires repayment. Include any account fee in the available-credit calculation, using the exact opening terms.

Small transactions can have disproportionate fees

A hypothetical $100 cash advance would incur the $10 minimum fee because 3% of $100 is only $3. Interest and any separate ATM charge can add to that cost. A $1,000 foreign transaction subject to the 3% fee adds $30 before exchange-rate effects. Consider those costs before choosing this as a travel or emergency-cash card.

Alternatives to compare

Capital One Platinum Secured and Discover Secured do not charge an annual fee in the offers checked here, but their APRs and other conditions differ. Eligible members can also compare Navy Federal cashRewards Secured.

Questions before applying

Does “no minimum credit score” guarantee approval?

No. The application must still satisfy the issuer’s requirements.

Is the premium card design necessary?

No. Evaluate an optional design fee separately from the financial features.

Does the annual fee disappear if I do not use the card?

Do not assume that inactivity removes a recurring fee. Read the account’s billing and closure conditions.
